<Splendor in the Grass>

 

William Wordsworth (United Kingdom 1770~1850)

What though the radiance which was once so bright

Be now for ever taken from my sight,

Though nothing can bring back the hour

Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower

We will grieve not, rather find

Strength in what remains behind...

In the soothing thoughts that spring

Out of human suffering...

In years that bring the philosophic mind.

한때는 그렇게도 밝았던 광채가

이제 내 곁에서 영원히 사라지고,

그 시절을 다시 돌이킬 수 없다 해도

초원의 빛이여, 꽃의 영광이여

우리 슬퍼하기보다, 차라리

뒤에 남은 것에서 힘을 찾으리.

마음을 달래주는 생각과

인간의 고통에서 솟아나오는

사색을 가져오는 세월에서.
